Meeting of Directors-General of Fire and Rescue Services of the Baltic States Took Place in Estonia
The trilateral Meeting of Directors-General of fire and rescue services of Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia took place on 30-31 August 2021. During the Meeting Directors-General have signed the Cooperation Agreement Between the Fire and Rescue Department under the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Lithuania, the Estonian Rescue Board and the State Fire and Rescue Service of the Republic of Latvia. The Agreement aims at establishing and developing practical cooperation on disaster prevention, preparedness, response, early warning and assistance. It is important to note that this is the first trilateral cooperation agreement between the fire and rescue services.
The Meeting also provided a good opportunity to discuss issues of particular concern, related to organizing common activities, managing COVID-19 challenges, invoking EU Civil Protection Mechanism while mitigating the consequences of the illegal migrant crisis.
During the Meeting Lithuania was represented by Mr Saulius Greičius, the Director of the Fire and Rescue Department under the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Lithuania and Mrs Ieva Monika Jankuvienė, Head of International Relations Division of the Department.
