Lithuanian Firefighters Team Took Part in the European FireFit Championship in Germany
On 20–24 June 2022, the European FireFit Championship was held in Hannover, Germany. The Championship was attended by several hundred participants from more than 10 countries who competed at selection stage in order to participate in the finals of the Championship. Lithuanian firefighters team took part in these competitions as well, meaning that 13 participants from Lithuania ran for 36 times in different stages of the selection.
All 13 representatives from Lithuania were among the top 120 participants who continued their individual starts in the finals of the European Championship. On Friday, Lithuania had two winners in individual races, namely, Mr Saulius Norušaitis who took the 3rd place (category: Over 45 Men) and Ms Regina Bartkutė who took the 2nd place (category: Over 40 Women).
On Saturday, Mr Marius Gasparėnas and Mr Donatas Gurevičius took the 3rd place in the tandem race (category: Over 40 Men) and Mr Laimonas Kivilius and Mr Saulius Norušaitis took the 2nd place in the same age category. Mr Romualdas Vilimas and Mr Karolis Gražinis won the 2nd place in the men’s tandem race (category: Under 40 Men). In the overall results their tandem score was ranked as the 2nd place.
Mr Remigijus Balčiūnas, Mr Laimonas Kivilius, Mr Saulius Norušaitis, Ms Regina Bartkutė and Mr Marius Gasparėnas participated in the Mixed Relay (team relay including at least one woman). The team did well and and took the 3rd place. The same 3rd place was won by Mr Andrius Ašmontas, Mr Gintautas Samauskis, Mr Rokas Lindenis, Mr Karolis Gražinis and Mr Romualdas Vilimas in the Men’s Team Relay.
In summary, Polish fire and rescue team became the European champions in the Men’s Team Relay. The 2nd place was won by firefighters team from Kiev, Ukraine.
It was the first international competition for the Lithuanian representatives this year after the competition of the Strongest Firefighter in Šiauliai, which took place on 8–9 June 2022, during which the team of the strongest firefighters was formed.
