Firefighters Settled in the Renovated Fire Station in Skuodas

The renovated Fire Station of Skuodas Fire and Rescue Service of Klaipėda Fire and Rescue Board was inaugurated on 24 July 2025. The renovation works were carried out with the funds of the United States European Command (USEUCOM).

The ceremonial opening of the renovated Fire Station was attended by the United States Ambassador to Lithuania Kara C. McDonald, the Vice-Minister of the Interior Gintaras Aliksandravičius, the Director of the Fire and Rescue Department Renatas Požėla, the Mayor of Skuodas District Municipality Stasys Gutautas and other distinguished guests.

“Lithuania‘s cooperation with the United States is not only a proof of our long-term partnership, but also an important contribution to the overall safety. We are sincerely grateful for the support provided by the United States. Together we are improving the working conditions of firefighters, strengthening the capacities of the Fire and Rescue Department and its ability to respond quickly and efficiently to incidents. Our goal is to provide firefighters with modern equipment and appropriate working conditions,” emphasized the Vice-Minister Gintaras Aliksandravičius.

“Today we have a special day in Skuodas. Thanks to the Embassy of the United States of America in Lithuania, we are opening the doors of another renovated fire station. Therefore, I would like to express sincere gratitude to her Excellency, Ms Kara C. McDonald, the United States Ambassador to the Republic of Lithuania, and all those who contributed to the implementation of this project. The cooperation between our colleagues from the United States of America and the Fire and Rescue Department has started in 2007. During that time we have not only received considerable support for our firefighters, but also four fire stations were renovated with the US funding. I am especially grateful to the United States Ambassador to the Republic of Lithuania and the Embassy staff for their great assistance in strengthening our service, improving working conditions for Lithuanian firefighters and helping to ensure the safety of the population. I look forward to continuing our close cooperation for decades to come,” said the Director of the Fire and Rescue Department Renatas Požėla.

“Today we celebrate the completion of the renovation of Skuodas Fire Station, a project that is much more than bricks and mortar,” said Kara C. McDonald, United States Ambassador to the Republic of Lithuania. “This is a testament to the strong partnership between the United States of America and Lithuania, strong Lithuanian emergency response capabilities, and our shared commitment to the safety and well-being of the people of this region,” the Ambassador added.

Skuodas Fire Station was put into operation in 1964. Over the years, the condition of the building deteriorated, so there was a strong need for renovation works. The major renovation works included replacing the roof of the building, fixing the exterior, insulating the walls, refurbishing the interior, renovating the firefighters’ lounge, installing a small gym, a shower room, refurbishing the kitchen, its equipment and furniture. The garages have also been renovated and their doors were replaced.

Today, the firefighters are pleased with the improved working and resting conditions since now Skuodas Fire Station is more comfortable and brighter.
