“BaltFloodCombat“ Team Took Part in the Exercise in Romania
On 18 October 2021 Lithuanian firefighters-rescuers, members of the EU module “BaltFloodCombat“, which was created in cooperation of three Baltics Sea States – Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, went to participate in international Exercise “EU ROMODEX“, taking place on 20-23 October 2021 in Romania.
The Exercise participants consisted of long-term members of the “BaltFloodCombat” module and Lithuanian Emergency Response Team (LERT) members, also participants of international missions and exercises. Lithuanian and Latvian representatives were responsible for water pumping and high capacity pumping works, Estonian representatives were responsible for logistical aspects: team accommodation, catering and transportation of the equipment.
The Exercise were organized in Timisoara District and lasted for 36 hours continuously. During the Exercise rescuers swapped each other - there were shifts organized so that to ensure better work quality. Lithuanian, Latvian and Estonian Team had a possibility to work together with Slovenian and Romanian Teams, also communicate with other EU modules. Moreover, the Exercise has been significant to “BaltFloodCombat” module, since it took only 1,5 months order to prepare for the event.
The Exercise was also attended by rescuers from Romania, Belgium, Spain, Croatia, Slovenia and Slovakia.
In general, the Exercise resulted in improving water pumping techniques, strengthening cooperation of international assistance teams and maintaining skills of the rescuers.
