19th Meeting of Directors General for Civil Protection of the Council of the Baltic Sea States took place online

The 19th Meeting of Directors General for Civil Protection of the Council of the Baltic Sea States has been organized online on 2nd June 2021. Participants of the Meeting were welcomed by Mr Saulius Greičius, Director of the Fire and Rescue Department under the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Lithuania, Mr Grzegorz Poznański, Director General of the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS) and Ms Kornelija Jurgaitienė, Ambassador at Large at  the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and National Coordinator of the Lithuanian Presidency in the CBSS.

Videoconference was attended by 42 representatives from 10 countries: Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Russian Federation, Sweden and also representatives from the CBSS Secretariat.

The Fire and Rescue Department under the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Lithuania (the Department) was represented by Mr Edgaras Geda, Head of Civil Protection Board, Mr Ernestas Trunovas,  Head of Population Protection Organization Division of Civil Protection Board and Ms Ieva Monika Jankuvienė, Head of International Relations Division.

During the Meeting, participants from each country shared information and experience on recent civil protection developments and activities, which are relevant to the Baltic Sea Region. Lithuanian representatives also reported on former events during the Lithuanian Presidency: videoconference “Baltic Sea Region: acting together against nuclear risk”, organized on 26th  November 2020 and videoconference “COVID-19 Outbreak: Challenges for Civil Protection and Lessons Learned”, organized on 17th March 2021.

19th Meeting of Directors General for Civil Protection of the Council of the Baltic Sea Statesis the third and the last civil protection event, which has been organized by representatives of the Department during the Lithuanian Presidency to the CBSS for 2020-2021.Norway will take over the Presidency of the CBSS from Lithuania on 1st July 2021.
